Discordantia

Discordantia, officially The People's Democratic Republic Of Discordantia Which Is Totally Not Totalitarian, is the nation bordering Centralia to the east. Discordantia is led by the self-proclaimed "evil dictatrix" TsarinaMalice.

Government

The government of Discordantia is, somehow, even more dysfunctional than that of Centralia. While Tsarina Malice believes herself to be an all-powerful totalitarian dictatrix, in reality, basically nobody listens to her, and everyone is out there just doing whatever they want. Even the leader of Malice's "secret police" (really just a group of servants who bring her junk food on-demand) has stated that, while they strive to keep Malice happy because they fear her supernatural power, she has basically no political power, despite ostensibly holding the office of "Supreme Leader".

Relationship with Centralia

Tsarina Malice considers Centralia and Discordantia to be rival nations. The rivalry, however, is apparently quite one-sided. When asked for an official statement about Discordantia, PrincessAlice replied, "Oh, right, that place next to Centralia! It sure does exist! Next question."

Unlike Centralia, which borders the ocean and has several islands, Discordantia is a landlocked country, which makes Malice irrationally envous. Malice has made it her life's goal to capture the Centralian coastline and launch a Discordantian naval fleet, but she has been woefully unsuccessful in these plans so far, because basically nobody wants to help her with it, and despite her posturing, she's not actually confident enough to try to take on PrincessAlice one-on-one. Also, even if she could get to the coast, she doesn't know how to swim.

Salem railroad crossings

Curiously, the village of Salem, Centralia, a small suburb of QueenCity, exclusively uses imported Discordantian warning signals at their railroad grade crossings. When Princess Alice asked TzeTze for the reasoning behind this arrangement, he offered the following explanation:

• Princess Alice: Remind me again why the railroad crossings in Salem, Centralia use imported crossing signals from Discordantia? Those are really hard to find replacement parts for and they're all starting to fall apart.

  Tzetze: It's stipulated by ancient treaties, signed in the blood of men and snakes, that the Salem crossings use only those parts specified by the local covens, lest the Dread Machine spoken of only obliquely return to damn the earth again.

  Tzetze: Currently the covens are represented by the Sisterhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainwitches (Local #868), which gets kickbacks from Discordantia. It's a problem

  Princess Alice: Oh, the SLET! That organization whose sign keeps getting vandalized by someone painting a U over the E.

  Tzetze: they need the kickbacks to pay for the sign replacement. resentment over the kickbacks motivates vandals. it's a vicious cycle
