Meredisc was a DVD rental service launched by PrincessMeredith in August 2006 as a competitor to Netflix.
The service proved unpopular with consumers, as unlike Netflix, which allowed users to choose which DVD they received, Princess Meredith simply grabbed whichever DVD happened to be closest to hand at the time and stuffed it in an envelope. One customer reported receiving the same Sesame Street DVD five times in a row. "I know it's the same one every time because it always has the exact same scratch on the bottom," she told journalists.
After only 4 months of operation, Meredisc went defunct in November 2006.
