The Royal Librarian and Archivist, often simply called The Librarian, is the administrator of the RoyalLibrary.
Background
The Royal Librarian is a magical construct created by the Library to act as an emissary between itself and those who visit the library. Despite essentially being an avatar of the Library's spirit, the Librarian is an autonomous being with a will of their own. In fact, the Librarian and the Library have been known to disagree, sometimes resulting in public arguments. For the most part, however, the Library and the Librarian do well at understanding and respecting each other's needs.
The Librarian is the highest authority in the Library, outranking even the reigning monarch while on Library grounds. PrincessAlice often gets kinda salty about it.
Residence
The Librarian resides in the Librarian's Quarters, a small, self-contained apartment on the highest floor of the Library tower.
The Librarian makes a point not to keep a television set in their quarters, though they do have a personal computer: a Commodore 57, the "enhanced" version of the Commodore 64 that was only sold in Centralia. Despite the Commodore 57 line having been discontinued decades ago, the Librarian has no problem accessing the modern Internet from theirs.
Friendship with Princess Alice
PrincessAlice and the Librarian have been friends for a long time. The Princess makes frequent visits to the Library, occasionally tormenting the Librarian for her amusement, but mostly just kinda...hanging out. Princess Alice is one of very few people besides the Librarian themself who has been permitted to enter the Librarian's Quarters, going so far as to have a couch delivered so she would have somewhere to "flop" while chatting with the Librarian. Sometimes Princess Alice even falls asleep on the couch, essentially inviting herself to stay the night.
The Librarian has, however, instituted certain restrictions on Princess Alice's access to the Library. They require the Princess to go through a "candy detector" before entering the building, following an incident in which the Princess accidentally got two pages stuck together in a thousand-year-old grimoire by handling it while her hands were sticky from candy.
