Duchess Emma is a high-ranking noblewoman of mysterious origins, who gained the favour of PrincessAlice through her alleged "cuteness" (something she always denies she possesses). She is styled the Duchess of the Island, though no one knows precisely which island this includes.
She is the head of the RoyalFireService, an organisation (emphatically not "organization") tasked with supplying emergency firefighting and medical services to the citizens of Centralia, as well as CentralianCivilDefence (emphatically not "defense"), dedicated to assisting in protection and recovery from disasters both magical and mundane.
The Duchess is also rumoured to be the leader of the CentralianNoMathParty, which has never experienced much electoral success in the Centralian Parliament due to their refusal to properly tally their votes, membership, or finances. Unfortunately, this lack of proper records prevents certain confirmation of her association.
What is more certain is her desire for legislative reform, which makes her sympathetic to LudomeraLucknovicDeMahoningHokendaqua and other members of the Mahoning Clique - though she possesses a different vision for what those reforms should entail, and thus would not consider herself a member of said Clique. (Neither of these visions align with the concession she received from the Princess after making her case for a written constitution: a document consisting entirely of the words "Duchess Emma is cute.")
The Duchess is fond - some would say overly fond - of using Commonwealth spelling, and is not above making jokes about others' choices in orthography when it suits her purposes.
Magical powers
The Duchess' most well-known magical power is her ability to conjure bricks out of thin air whenever an occasion for throwing a brick might arise. She is well-known for using this ability to seek immediate revenge on any punsters or other people with senses of humour she deems terrible. (When accused of hypocrisy in this matter, given her own well-known vicious sense of humour, she responded simply that the accusations were "lies and falsehoods," and refused to comment further.)
