Competitors to CA Marketplace include HowellsSupermarkets and XS-Mart. <> == Brands == * CA Marketplace: flagship chain, supermarkets specializing in food & drug items * CA Marketplace Essentials: experimental hypermarket chain, adding limited general merchandise selection to grocery stores; competes with XS-Mart * Tumblr: supermarket chain co-branded with social media site (retired 2018) === Tumblr partnership === In 2011, CA Marketplace partnered with social media site Tumblr to open four stores bearing the Tumblr brand name, located in QueenCity, Colerain, Maresville, and ButtercupBay. The interior of each store was designed to evoke the branding of the Tumblr website, including the use of various shades of blue and the typeface Helvetica. With the opening of the stores came the launch of a unique program in which Tumblr shoppers could reblog coupons for additional discounts. Initially, the Tumblr stores were treated as an independent venture, with Tumblr-branded products appearing on store shelves, and a unique Tumblr-branded circular published each week. After the website rebranded in 2013, however, several aspects of the Tumblr co-branding were phased out, with the Tumblr-branded products being replaced by standard CA Marketplace brands. The Tumblr-branded circulars were phased out in favor of the standard CA Marketplace circulars, and customers soon noticed that sales receipts bore the CA Marketplace logo instead of the Tumblr logo, though the text `TUMBLR BY CA MARKETPLACE` still appeared below the logo. On December 3, 2018, CA Marketplace announced that the 7-year partnership with Tumblr was ending, and the four Tumblr stores would be converted to the CA Marketplace brands. Reblogged coupons continued to be accepted until December 17, 2018. Minimal changes were made to the stores during the rebranding: while the signs on the stores' exteriors were changed to the standard CA Marketplace sign, and any Tumblr logos within the store were covered with the CA Marketplace logo, the rest of the blue Tumblr-inspired décor remained intact, including the use of blue shopping carts, though the logos on the carts were changed as well. ---- CategoryBusinesses
