Alicorn Crystal++

The Alicorn Crystal++ is a smartphone developed by AlicornSystems, released on 15 March 2017. It is the latest in the Alicorn Crystal line of smartphones running the Android-based PegasOS operating system.

Overview

The Crystal++ was designed with usability in mind. According to lead designer TreLaBleep:

• "You should be able to just take one look at this thing and go, 'I know how to use this.' Everything about it is intended to act as an extension of the user rather than being its own thing they have to fight with. We don't lock our bootloaders because we embrace creativity and innovation within our community of Alicorn owners, and we want this phone, as well as all of ours down the line, to act as a medium for communication that strikes a balance between being unique and familiar."¹

• Daydream support is included, and Alicorn plans to offer headsets that fit the standards too in order to allow everyone to have a little more choice in selection. "Collaboration with Google is imperative to our success as a company," says Tre.
• Raise to wake. Alicorn's implementation will be in line with that of Motorola: notifications and the time at a glance, with instant launching into the phone itself when the user needs to act on them or just use it for something else.
• Customizable launch gestures.
• Dedicated camera launch/shutter button. (The user can program it as they like, so if they want to launch a different app like Snapchat with it or make it do different things when you hold it down or double tap, they can.)
• "Notifications that don't suck." To avoid the problem of having a constant stream of notes in one's drawer that one leaves unchecked due to sheer volume, Alicorn has introduced system that lets the user sort notifications by app and display only the ones I deem most important with the option to show the rest in a full view when as they see fit.

• Remembers TV providers in individual TV Everywhere apps. For example, if you use your Centel login for Cartoon Network's app, you can immediately pop over to the Adult Swim or Cartoon Network apps and not have to worry about logging in again.

• A voice assistant. The included assistant was not confirmed before launch, with Tre stating "We'll ship with either Alexa or Google Assistant standard, with the option to install any of the other available ones and use it as the standard (or, indeed, no assistant at all) if the user isn't a fan."
• NFC, for Android Pay;

• A cross-platform AirDrop clone to easily allow users to send files to a friend or to another device of theirs without too much effort.
