Professor Dame Adorabelle Wallace is a Centralian mage and retired educator best known as the founder of DameAdorabellesAcademy, where she served as headmistress for many years, and as the best friend and life partner of PrincessMeredith.

Biography

Meeting Meredith

Nobody knows when or where Adorabelle was born. All that is known is that she existed long before the founding of the nation that would become Centralia.

For most of her early life, Adorabelle lived in a small cabin deep in a forest, and often spent her days outdoors, feeling at one with nature. One day, while wading in a creek, Adorabelle was approached by a strange young woman who seemed very confused. The woman, absolutely captivated by Adorabelle's elegance and grace, asked Adorabelle directly: "Are all of this planet's creatures as beautiful as you?"

While most would find this a strange question, Adorabelle took it in stride, simply thanking the woman for the compliment and asking her name. The strange woman told Adorabelle that she did not have a name, and Adorabelle noted that she seemed confused by the very concept of names. Adorabelle then took the woman inside, gave her food and clothes, and tried her hardest to explain the concept of names. In the end, the two decided the woman would adopt the name Meredith.

Meredith stayed at Adorabelle's cabin for some time, and gradually began explaining her situation to Adorabelle. Adorabelle learned that Meredith had only arrived on Earth a few days earlier and had spent that time wandering aimlessly through the forest. Her encounter with Adorabelle in the creek was her first glimpse of any Earth creature, and from that moment, she knew she was destined to stay on Earth.

Life in the Palace of Serenity

Following their initial encounter, Meredith and Adorabelle continued to grow close, with Adorabelle serving as Meredith's informal guide to life on Earth. When the Principality of Centralia was founded, the newly-crowned Princess Meredith appointed Adorabelle as her official magical advisor. Many observed that Adorabelle's relationship with the princess seemed almost romantic in nature, though they never formally married.

When it was discovered that another Asterian had come to Earth, this time a small child, Adorabelle persuaded Meredith to take her in and raise her together, effectively making her their adopted daughter. It was Adorabelle herself who named the child Jeanette.

While Princess Meredith was initially reluctant to appoint a successor to the throne, Adorabelle persuaded her of the importance of doing so. Meredith originally offered this appointment to Adorabelle herself, but Adorabelle declined, as she had grown tired of life in the palace and wanted to pursue a career in academia, so Meredith ultimately named Jeanette as her successor.

Career in academia

After resigning from her position as Princess Meredith's official magical advisor, Adorabelle accepted a faculty position at HilltopUniversity, Centralia's oldest university. It was during her tenure at Hilltop that she earned the title of Professor.

Many years later, Adorabelle, recognizing the need to teach students with unusually powerful magic how to hone their abilities at a young age, left her faculty position at Hilltop University and sought to establish a magic school for children. She soon founded the famous Dame Adorabelle's Academy of the Magical Arts in Havensborough, teaching middle and high schoolers. One of Adorabelle's first students was Jeanette, the heir to the throne. Adorabelle was well aware of the difficulty of teaching someone as powerful as an Asterian how to control their magic, but was confident her experience with Meredith would give her the tools she needed to educate Jeanette effectively.

During Adorabelle's time as headmistress of her namesake academy, she maintained a private laboratory in a hidden basement space beneath the Administrative Building. Accessible only through a secret passage in the belly of the Crystal Dragon statue displayed in the building's rear hallway, Adorabelle's secret laboratory served not only as a venue for magical experiments, but also as a quiet refuge where she could find respite, however brief, from the demands of campus life. Only one other person, Adorabelle's secretary, was aware of the existence of the secret lab, and Adorabelle made sure he was sworn to secrecy. In her later years as headmistress, students and faculty alike often observed that Professor Wallace would "go missing" for hours at a time even during school hours. The private laboratory became such a comfort to Adorabelle that she continued to use it even after formally retiring from her position as headmistress many years later.

The hidden room that once served as Adorabelle's private laboratory is now used as a secret meeting place by PrincessAlice and her circle of friends, though they are entirely unaware of its history. Notably, Adorabelle's lab (which Princess Alice now refers to as her "clubhouse") is the one hangout spot on the entire campus that the school's current headmistress has no knowledge of.

Personal life

Since her retirement from Dame Adorabelle's academy, Adorabelle has largely withdrawn from the public eye, and is now infamously reclusive. On the rare occasions that Adorabelle does speak to members of the press, she downplays her titles, preferring to be addressed as "Ms. Adorabelle" rather than "Professor Dame Wallace". She now lives in a small house in a remote wooded area, not far from the creek where she first encountered Princess Meredith centuries ago. She keeps all the awards and honors she has received throughout her life stuffed in a closet on the lower level of her house, viewing them as unimportant. Her only truly prized possession is a teddy bear given to her by Princess Meredith herself.

Adorabelle has driven the same baby blue pickup truck for at least 60 years, often taking it into town when she needs to do shopping. Nobody knows the mileage the truck has seen, but Adorabelle apparently goes to great effort to maintain it, as it drives almost exactly like it did when it was new.

Honors and legacy

Adorabelle holds the distinction of being the first individual knighted by Princess Meredith. Ostensibly, her knighthood was in recognition of great service to the Crown, but really, it was because she is Princess Meredith's best friend.

A large statue of Adorabelle stands in the courtyard of Dormitory Circle at her namesake school. Princess Alice has, on multiple occasions, gotten in trouble for attempting to transmogrify Adorabelle's statue into a statue of herself.
